Despite their denials we all know that many tv ads come across at greater volume than the programme you are watching.
How nice it would be to be invited to a Channel whatever cocktail party and corner on of these tv ad men/women. You could then hold an interesting conversation by SHOUTING IN THEIR FACE FROM A DISTANCE OF ABOUT 2 INCHES !!!
Bad manners I know but no worse than theirs when they invade my lounge room with their loudmouthed, boorish and unwanted cr*p.

Yeah, I wish there was something one could do on both TV, DVDs and iPods to equalise the volume, that is, make the quiet parts louder and the loud parts quieter. How often do we have to turn up the volume on a DVD to hear a whispered conversation before a surprise gun-battle explodes our ear drums? Same deal with having an iPod on shuffle that follows a quiet song with a loud one. Maybe in the future technology will learn to measure the volume of songs, ads, etc and fix it up for us automatically.
Loud add’s make me want to turn the tv off.
This is only going to get worse actually. With some HD channels now broadcasting in 5.1 surround sound the volume drops considerably so you have to turn it up. When the ads come back on though most of them are in stereo and the volume goes back to normal. If you just cranked up your stereo to hear the movie better then the ads are going to be super loud!
Lady Chaos with iPods you can actually compress the sound in iTunes to have every song on your iPod the same level. On some home theater amplifiers you can set it to ‘midnight’ mode which will level out all the high’s and low’s for you so you can watch your movies or whatever the way you were suggesting. They call it midnight because it’s mainly used for those watching something late at night when you don’t want to wake up the rest of the house. When the dialog is soft in a film and you turn up the volume a bit so you can hear it, and then a building blows up, you don’t wake up the neighbourhood so you have this setting turned on.
