council rant
Published 1 year, 5 months ago in My life.I need lessons from marywalsh. Knox Council is arguing the toss with traders about spending $1M plus re-shuffling the car park spaces in Boronia shopping centre to provide seats and trees.
Most people I know dont want to sit in a smelly, noisy car park, they want to park, shop and go home.
Meanwhile the council can’t find $50 to fill a damn great pothole at the entrance to said car park !
Where are their priorities ?

They priority seems to be inward looking, when is the next council junket?
Hume council has built themselves nice new council offices (under the 2030 plan) and did they provide car spaces NO they’ve taken over the shopping centre/centrelink area carpark, making it a permit zone and seem to have employed a full time inspector to book residents that haven’t yet realised. Great of them ’specially since locals had to put up with 18months of construction to extend the shopping centre car park area just to loss them 12 months down the track but this is the council that seems to be happy with the idea of building a school on the town park and the same said council that thought taking on the pick up sticks that were the Federation Arch was a good idea only to be unable to secure sponsorship to reerect them so now they’re dumped at a council depot in Sunbury ‘cos they don’t know what to do with them.
Councils I’m in two minds whether we need them ‘cos by & far them don’t seem to provide value for money.
yep i can sure tell you about the council short vision mate at the park hill plaza they built the car park and sent every body broke including our little business so i support you this month we support the royal flying doctor
Granary, any time you want a fellow Knox resident and journalist to help out with a fight against KC, just ask.
Thing is, under the Westminster system, councils are required to provide Responsible Government. If they don’t they are in breech of their duty of care, and as such, are liable to be removed from office.
Problem is, one person alone can not make a difference, likewise, a small group have similar chances.
However, if a sizable number protest, they can get action. Remember the Whitlan Governments dismissal. Sure, they were booted out coz they didn’t have the numbers to pass the money bills, but along with that, they lost out coz they were in breech of their duty of care.

Seems like most councils are the same. Moonee Valley has just spent over $130,000 on increasing car parking spaces at the Centreway shopping centre at the request of traders. If the Council parking officers had done their job it would not have been necessary because all the short term 2 and 3 hour customer spots are being used by the shopkeepers and their employees as all day parking instead of using an off road area provided for them. I will be asking for regular parking officer patrols now to make the shop keepers and their staff pay for the work if they continue to illegally park.
Perhaps Granary the way to make them stop and assess the damage to lungs in the carbon moxide environment of a car park, is to point out that smoking was banned because of poison in the air….Not to mention children and cars in the same space!
Reading others comments, it looks like not only should Glen Eira’s Resident take back their People Power. Perhaps ratepayers in general, need to start making their presence felt.
All power to the Residents - we can only improve what’s thrown to us like a bone, by Councils - take it or leave it. the attitude of “frankly, we don’t give a damn!”
