whither nook ?
Published 1 year, 6 months ago in My life.Is it just me or have other people noticed how some nookers appear and disappear after one or two posts. Or that, although new nookers appear in the side panel every day, very few of them actually post or reply to anything.
In the nook personalities post nooknews makes reference to nookers I’ve never heard of. Where are they now ? Do nookers become disinterested or do they re-appear under different names.
Even amongst those who post regularly there are some who think that others may be suffering from some kind of MPD so the true number may be as low as six !
And why does admin treat us all like big brother specimens. They watch everything we do, delete anything they deem inappropriate without giving a reason and when things go wrong just watch us squirm.
Exactly what does The Leader get out of this site ?
We should be told.

Allegedly, I have a MDP. That’s not true. There’s a lot of great characters on Nook but we’re all pretty busy people.
In regard to people coming and then disappearing you may like to put me in that catagory. The reason being I have been very ill for 8 weeks and haven’t been able to log in. Just prior to getting sick I logged in regularly only to find there was not much to reply to.The content of the post needs to be something that is not trivial, some people just post for the sake of posting something (if that makes sense)and I don’t leave a reply if I have nothing to contribute.Yes there are regular nooksters that post every day but not every one has the time to do that either. There are many reasons mine are only a couple but I’m sure others have many more reasons.
I’m sorry to hear you have not been well skyhooks. It was not a judgement, just an observation, wondering why. Welcome back.
I wonder the same things hg.
I have wondered if we’re part of a giant study into the psychogenesis of humans. The information would be advantageous to politicians, media, advertising, etc. The more the powers that be can understand the great unwashed the more they can control & manipulate us.
I wonder too about the MPD of some nooksters. I think some leave and reinvent themselves & return. I wonder if admin sometimes plays the part of some nooksters. There’s probably some who our members of several different sites so are only occassional visitors. Then there are fanatics like me, though there are times I get bored with it & don’t visit as much or can’t be bothered commenting on posts.
I wonder if it’s technical difficulties when things dissappear etc or just mind games or both.
I love a good conspiracy theory though.
Quote “I have wondered if we’re part of a giant study into the psychogenesis of humans” end quote. Gee vivavoce that sounds like something brian may have said, or will reply to!
To show my ignorance, what does MPD stand for???
multiple personality disorder
You guys have to get a hobby other than this nook, especially you vivavoce… I mean really.
why?
Lately I’ve been reading almost everything that gets posted, but don’t have anything to say in reply. Either that or I cant be bothered actually logging in to reply.
me too skymija - I read most of the posts and just have pretty much nothing to say. must be the late hour at which I sit at the screen - coz it surely can’t be my addled brain!
Hey, wetblanket whats wrong with NOOK being a hobby? Better than some other peoples hobbies. Drugs, alcohol, pornography, loitering, the list is endless. Some people are shy others don’t get out much and some just prefer the company of others via NOOK.I for one enjoy reading the comments and questions of others and vivavoce quite often posts some great articles. It’s also educational and I for one am an example of this. Most people who know me via NOOK know that I was totally computer illiterate when I first joined, now, by no means am I an expert, but I have learnt allot about computers and how to use them.I also just learn’t from above what MPD is, thanks for asking that question grumpyoldman, I was still a bit embarrassed to ask. I think NOOK is great as I am also one of those people (due to a back injury) that doesn’t get out much.Relax and enjoy the experience of freedom of speech if you don’t want to reply to anything you don’t have to and if you don’t like a certain post don’t read it.But fair go what gives you the right to tell someone to change their hobby? By the way what are some of your hobbies? And thanks hannahsgranpa it’s good to be back
Good to have you back skyhooks. Never be embarrassed to ask, there is no such thing as a stupid question just ……… well, you know.
I don’t call it a hobby, just sharing a joke and information, and maybe cheer someone up who’s having a down day!
Nook is what you want to make of it…
Thanks for the rant Skyhook, totally missed the point of the comment… it was almost like Red Dwarf was back from university. Ahhhh how we missed the abuse & confusion.
Getting back to the original question - there are some of us who don’t feel compelled to respond to every post, or to post every day. Remember, sometimes silence is golden. Only speak (i.e. post) when you have something to say or or you will end up like those mindless mobile phone chatterers who speak endlessly but say nothing.
Blog on.
